If you can’t tell, I am beyond excited! This is a huge deal for the student and the family but it’s also a huge deal for me! As I mentioned in my last post, one of my greatest struggles is finding community contacts who are willing and able to work with our program.
As I brainstormed early this year trying to find the perfect match for each unique student, I drove past a guy outside a local pizza place bouncing around with a $5 pizza advertisement sign. And like a ton of bricks, brilliance descended! THAT was the perfect job for this specific student. Outside. Not interacting directly with a whole lot of customers. Energy as a fundamental staple for success. Only during peak hours so as not to interfere with Social Security Disability pay by making too much money or working too many hours.
The. Perfect. Job.
So I did what I have practiced and brazenly called the business and asked for information about that job or jobs similar to it around the community. Low and behold, they needed somebody. Student applied. Scheduled an interview. And got the job!
So this week the student will start the job and I get to job coach! I am SO EXCITED! Any experienced job coaches out there with advice for me?
